Les Arts Florissants
Les Arts Florissants, founded in 1979 by William Christie, consists of an instrumental and a small vocal ensemble. For the concert at the Whitsun Festival, the choir will be featured in a prominent role. The centerpiece of the program is Domenico Scarlatti’s Stabat mater. While his operas and smaller sacred compositions are dominated clearly by his father’s influence, his 10-voice Stabat mater is a choral work with hardly any parallels in musical history.
