From 2008 to 2012 the Slovenian soprano Andreja Zidarič studied at the Konservatorium Wien University, where she majored in light music theatre and where her singing teacher was Michele Friedman. After gaining her bachelor’s degree, she continued to study solo singing at the same university with Uta Schwabe. Her other singing teachers have included Patricia Nessy. Within the framework of her studies she sang the title role in Paul Lincke’s Frau Luna, Penelope Pennywise in Mark Hollmann’s musical Urinetown and, in 2014, Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. Elsewhere she has been heard in Joseph Beer’s Polnische Hochzeit and Lehár’s Das Land des Lächelns at the Vienna Operetta Summer Festival, in Johann Strauß’s Wiener Blut at the Langenlois Castle Festival and also in a number of concerts, including the Herzogenburg Symphony Orchestra’s 2014 New Year Concert. In September 2013 Andreja Zidarič won the Seventh International Heinrich Strecker Singing Competition (‘Cross Over Competition’) in Baden near Vienna, where she also won the audience prize and the special prize of the Salzburg Festival. As a member of the Young Singers Project she will be heard at the 2014 Salzburg Festival as Blonde in Die Entführung aus dem Serail for Children and as the First Noble Orphan in Der Rosenkavalier.
