Amitai Pati is of Samoan descent and has recently completed an MA in Advanced Vocal Studies at the Wales International Academy of Voice under the tutelage of world renowned tenor, Dennis O’Neill. He was the winner of the prestigious Lexus SongQuest in 2012. He has extensive experience in choral singing, having performed and toured with the New Zealand Youth Choir, the Graduate Choir and the Auckland University Choir. Most recently Amitai has performed in NBR New Zealand Opera’s Hohepa, a newly commissioned New Zealand composition, for the New Zealand International Arts Festival in which he was able to work alongside international singers such as Jonathan Lemalu, and in NBR’s production of Rigoletto. He has also worked with the Auckland Opera Studio, performing regularly as a soloist in recital and also as a member of the chorus for their production of La sonnambula. He has performed as the tenor soloist for Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Auckland Youth Orchestra as well as the tenor soloist in a performance of Mozart’s Requiem in Wales. On the opposite of the spectrum, Amitai has also sung as a backing vocalist for George Benson on his tour of New Zealand. He has sung in master classes with the likes of Joseph Rouleau, Della Jones, Dame Josephine Barstow, Dame Anne Murray, Maestro Richard Bonynge, Dennis O’Neill and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
