CONCERT 2015 | THE SERIES
PROGRAMME SUMMER 2015
OPERA DRAMA CONCERT
In 1927 Bernhard Paumgartner began the tradition by which the Mozarteum Foundation and the Salzburg Festival present a performance of Mozart’s Mass in C Minor at the Collegiate Church of St. Peter’s every year. For the 2014 Salzburg Festival the performance has been entrusted to the Salzburg Bach Choir and the Camerata Salzburg, founded by Paumgartner in 1952; they will be led by the conductor and harpsichordist Christophe Rousset.
For its next concert, the Camerata Salzburg will work with a conductor who is a famous soloist too: violinist Thomas Zehetmair also performs one of the solo parts in the Austrian premiere of the double concerto That Subtle Knot by John Casken, sharing the stage with violist Ruth Killius. The piece by the British composer, who was born in 1949 and is noted for his symphonic work, takes its title from a line of John Donne’s poem The Ecstasy; it will have its world premiere in June 2014 in England with the same pair of soloists. The programme also features Mendelssohn’s enchanting concert overture Das Märchen von der schönen Melusine as well as Mozart’s ‘Haffner’ Serenade with its opening March K. 249.
In the last concert of this series the Camerata Salzburg will accompany the participants of the Young Singers Project in their final Festival appearance – as in the two previous summers, Theodor Guschlbauer conducts. The exact programme will be developed together with the singers during the summer.
