ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

With the Young Singers Project, the Salzburg Festival has created a high-carat platform to support rising young singers in 2008. Young singers are selected through international auditions for the Young Singers Project and work with Festival artists as part of their scholarship in Salzburg. Tuition includes not only musical aspects, but also scenic rehearsals, diction coaching and repertoire expansion. These encounters and the practical application within the framework of the Festival make the YSP an education programme that serves as an international model.

The members of the Young Singers Project will perform as part of Opera viva and of Die Zauberflöte für Kinder (The Magic Flute for Children) and also appear in productions of the 2012 Festival Season.

Young Singers Project

With the Young Singers Project, the Salzburg Festival created a high-carat platform in 2008 to support rising young vocal artists. At international auditions, young vocalists are selected for the Young Singers Project; they subsequently get to work with Festival artists as part of their scholarship. Their tuition includes not only musical aspects, but also scenic rehearsals, language coaching and repertoire expansion. These encounters and the practical work at the Festival make YSP a professional education project internationally regarded as a benchmark. Members of the Young Singers Project are responsible for the performances of “Wir spielen eine Oper!”, Die Zauberflöte for Children as well as Die Entführung aus dem Serail for Children (please see the folder on Children’s and Youth Programmes); they also appear in further productions of the 2013 Festival season. There will also be public master classes led by major Festival artists. In a final concert, which forms part of the Serenades in the Residenz courtyard, the young singers are introduced to their audience.
