An unforgettable night in Salzburg

Today, Alek is remembering a night in Salzburg when he was still a student at the Mozarteum Sommerakademie. The evening started like many others but soon it turned out, that the night was still long and the pockets almost empty. What to do? In the end a creative solution saved the night and Alek had learned three new things about life in general and Salzburg in particular.

Christian Thielemann’s Salzburg opera debut: Die Frau ohne Schatten
“Of course, it is something special” to conduct an opera by Festival founder Richard Strauss at that selfsame festival, says Christian Thielemann. Especially if that opera also marks one’s Salzburg opera debut. Thielemann is taking a sabbatical from Bayreuth this summer, conducting Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Salzburg Festival. The Vienna Philharmonic joins him in the orchestra pit.

From 2008 on, working for and with the younger generation is one of the focal points of the Salzburg Festival program. Youth camps, affordable youth tickets, student projects and accompanying events specifically aimed at younger audiences are meant to inspire and develop their joy and understanding of music. Starting right now, you also can book youth subscriptions. On the whole, 3,000 tickets for operas, plays and concerts with a price reduction up to 90% will be reserved for patrons younger than 27 (i.e., born after June 30, 1984). A Musical Portrait: Marc Minkowski

This summer, the Salzburg Festival presents all three Da Ponte operas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, directed by Claus Guth. The stage director will continue to develop his versions of the operas. Marc Minkowski and his orchestra Les Musiciens du Louvre • Grenoble will be responsible for the musical new production of Così fan tutte. Rainer Elstner has created a musical portrait of the Mozart interpreter Marc Minkowski, which also discusses Mozart’s “philosophical treatise on love, faithfulness, female simple-mindedness and male machismo, and the uprising of the serving classes”.
