The Salzburg Festival Children’s Chorus, directed by Wolfgang Götz, was founded in 2008 by the Salzburg Festival with the goal of supporting music education of children and teenagers and to integrate the ensemble into Festival productions.
In its first year, the chorus participated in Verdi’s Otello as well as in two concerts; as in 2009, the children also gave their own concert during the Festival summers of 2010 and 2011. In 2010, the Salzburg Festival Children’s Chorus sang in Prokofiev’s Ivan the Terrible with the Vienna Philharmonic under Riccardo Muti and in Arthur Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher with the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna under Bertrand de Billy.
This year, members of the chorus appear in Strauss’ Die Frau ohne Schatten and Verdi’s Macbeth. Apart from the Children’s Concert with Sunnyi Melles, on August 15 another successful performance took place at the University’s Main Auditorium.
Applications for the Children’s Chorus are accepted throughout the year; participation is at the director’s discretion. Further information is available at firstname.lastname@example.org.
