Since 1977, the 50th anniversary of its founding, the Concert Association Vienna State Opera Chorus commemorates the former director of the Vienna State Opera by awarding the Clemens Krauss Medal in Gold, Silver or Bronze to personalities from culture, politics and business as a way to express gratitude for outstanding service to the Concert Association and its work. After Karl Böhm, the first honoree, previous recipients have included Herbert von Karajan, LH Wilfried Haslauer, Marcel Prawy, Carlo Maria Giulini, the Vienna Philharmonic, Claudio Abbado, Sir Georg Solti and Riccardo Muti.
The continuous inclusion of the Vienna State Opera Chorus in the Salzburg Festival, which has been a tradition for almost 80 years, has been supported extensively by Helga Rabl-Stadler since she was named President of the Salzburg Festival in 1995. By awarding her the Clemens Krauss Medal in Silver, the Concert Association Vienna State Opera Chorus expresses its gratitude for this esteem.
Dr. Eliza Marian Zurmann, Chairperson of the Vienna State Opera Chorus, adds: “Dr. Rabl-Stadler has always been faithful to our choir and assisted us with advice and practical support. This is our way to showing our gratitude and respect for her!”
