Presenting the Festival program personally to its faithful friends is one of the matters dear to the Salzburg Festival. After London, New York, Zurich and Munich, the “road show” took us to Paris again, for the first time in 15 years, where Helga Rabl-Stadler, Alexander Pereira and Cecilia Bartoli, the Artistic Director of the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, gave a well-attended press conference on Tuesday. Thanks to the generous support of Ambassador Dr. Ursula Plassnik, this took place at the Austrian Embassy in Paris. The multilingual Festival trio impressed the attending journalists not only with the artistic highlights it presented, but also with its immaculate French. For world star Cecilia Bartoli, the event was a particular pleasure, as she had just enjoyed raving success and ovations in Handel’s Semele
with the Orchestra La Scintilla at Salle Pleyel in Paris.
Tuesday evening was devoted to a second presentation for the “Friends and Supporters of the Salzburg Festival”, which took place among the art-steeped ambiance of Galerie Ropac. Heinrich Spängler, President of the “Friends”, and gallery owner Thaddaeus Ropac, who is closely connected with the Festival through the Young Directors Project, welcomed their guests amidst a Mapplethorpe exhibit curated by Sofia Coppola. The 120 attendees were highly enthusiastic about the upcoming highlights of the Whitsun and Summer Festival – and of course about the fact that the Salzburg Festival had finally returned to Paris for the first time since 1996.
