On December 13, two members of the Executive Committee of the Concert Association of the Vienna State Opera Chorus, Dr. Eliza Marian-Zurmann and Michael Knapp, as well as Festival president Dr. Helga Rabl-Stadler and Artistic Director Alexander Pereira signed a framework cooperation agreement for the coming five years.
The Concert Association of the Vienna State Opera Chorus has been appearing without interruption at the Salzburg Festival’s opera performances and concerts since 1923. Cooperation with many famous conductors and stage directors has been the hallmark of this common history. As examples, suffice it to mention Richard Strauss, Arturo Toscanini, Karl Böhm, Herbert von Karajan, Riccardo Muti, and Nikolaus Harnoncourt on the one hand and Lothar Wallerstein, Walter Felsenstein, Oscar Fritz Schuh, Gustav Gründgens, Jean-Pierre Ponnelle, Otto Schenk and Peter Stein on the other.
“The upcoming years of Alexander Pereira’s artistic directorship include very beautiful and interesting challenges for the Concert Association of the Vienna State Opera Chorus, based on our large repertoire of opera and concert literature,” Eliza Marian-Zurmann and Michael Knapp said.
“It is a great thing for the Salzburg Festival to have this chorus: it is musically perfect, flexible and ready to take on any scenic adventure,” Festival President Helga Rabl-Stadler emphasized on the occasion of the contract signing in Vienna. Artistic Director Alexander Pereira said that “The State Opera Chorus is the ideal partner for us, and on its shoulders we will build the most important choral projects of the coming years.”
