The Salzburg Festival is pleased that Nicolas Stemann’s nine-hour production of Faust I + II
, a 2011 co-production of the Salzburg Festival and the Thalia Theater Hamburg, has been invited to this year’s Theatertreffen in Berlin (May 4-20, 2012). The piece will be revived at the Berliner Festspiele – as one of the ten most remarkable productions of the season.
“Of course, we are truly delighted,” said the Artistic Director of the Thalia Theater, Joachim Lux, about the invitation to the most important annual showcase of works in German-language theater. Apart from eight other plays, there is a second Austrian production at the Berlin Theatertreffen: the Burgtheater production of Chekhov’s Platonov directed by Alvis Hermanis. The Latvian stage director Alvis Hermanis will also be featured prominently during the Salzburg Festival’s upcoming season, when he directs the opera Die Soldaten by Bernd Alois Zimmermann at the Felsenreitschule. The premiere takes place on August 20, 2012 at 6:00 pm.
The two productions were selected from a total of 430 productions from all over the German-language region. Congratulations!
