SN Supplement Presents Festival Summer
published in: General
Among other features, the Festival Supplement focuses on Emanuel Schikaneder, one of the most original and influential theatrical impresarios of his time. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his death, his “Part the Second of The Magic Flute”, entitled Das Labyrinth, will be performed amidst the baroque atmosphere of the Residenzhof, directed by Alexandra Liedtke.
Sven-Eric Bechtolf, the Salzburg Festival’s Director of Drama, is interviewed by Peter Arp about his thoughts on his new version of Ariadne auf Naxos and how he included the relationship between Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Countess Ottonie von Degenfeld in the opera.
Max Nyffeler entitled his essay on Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Die Soldaten “The Triumph of an Epochal Work”: in this groundbreaking stage work, the composer demonstrated that he was fully able to employ new composition techniques, creating a work that is not only highly complex, but also imbued incomparably with the expression of human compassion.
In the drama department, Peter Arp introduces Irina Brook, whose new production of Peer Gynt brings the world into a living-room. Christian Seiler explains in an extensive essay what awaits the audience in Meine Bienen. Eine Schneise.
Of course, the multi-faceted concert program also receives broad attention, with a special accent on the Festival’s new prologue of sacred music, the Ouverture spirituelle.
