We are happy to present you with glimpses of the preparations for this season, through interviews and rehearsal footage. The series begins with an interview with German soprano Angela Denoke. Angela Denoke sings the main role in Leoš Janáček’s The Makropulos Affair in 2011. She talks about the mysterious figure of Emilia Marty, the fascinating collaboration with the exceptional director Christoph Marthaler, and why one should not miss The Makropulos Affair under any circumstances. Leoš Janáček’s works have been presented in Salzburg in groundbreaking productions: From the House of the Dead, Jenufa and Kat’a Kabanová are in good and recent memory. For this summer, Artistic Director Markus Hinterhäuser has programmed The Makropulos Affair, whose gripping plot turns on questions of eternal life and infinite youth. Angela Denoke, the celebrated Kat’a of 1998, sings the main role; Christoph Marthaler, who won acclaim for his production of Kat’a Kabanová, directs. The Finnish conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen takes the podium at the helm of the Vienna Philharmonic.
