Florian Simma

Austrian cellist Florian Simma was born in Feldkirch in 1980 and received his first lessons at the age of five at the Dornbirn Music School. After winning numerous prizes, he continued his studies with Christoph Bürgi in St Gallen, before spending four years studying with Daniel Müller-Schott in Munich.
From 1999 to 2005 Florian Simma studied at the State Academy of Music and the Performing Arts in Stuttgart with Peter Buck and at the Academy of Music and Dance in Cologne with Frans Helmerson. He has been a scholarship holder of the Stuttgart Richard Wagner Association and has taken part in masterclasses with Walter Nothas, Steven Isserlis and Yehudi Hanani.
Florian Simma’s work covers numerous fields, including collaborating with musicians including Benjamin Schmid, Peter Buck, Hermann Voss, Daniel Schnyder, Ingo Goritzki and Clemens Hagen in various chamber music formations, as well as appearing as principal cellist with orchestras such as the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra in Heilbronn, the Camerata Salzburg and at the Bavarian State Opera. As a soloist, he has performed successfully with orchestras and in recital, including at many internationally renowned concert halls, and has been a guest and lecturer at chamber music festivals and music courses worldwide.
He has made numerous recordings for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation and South West German Radio.
Florian Simma lives in Salzburg, where he has been principal cellist with the Mozarteum Orchestra since 2008. He is also a member of the stadler quartet and teaches at the Tyrol Regional Conservatory in Innsbruck.
