The internationally acclaimed soprano Aida Garifullina appears regularly at leading international opera houses and concert halls, including the Vienna State Opera, La Scala, Milan, the Paris Opéra, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and the Metropolitan Opera, New York.
Her 2023/24 season includes performances as Mimì (La bohème) at the Opera na vodi in Belgrade and as Gilda (Rigoletto) at the Berlin State Opera. She also appears in numerous solo concerts. In the 2022/23 season she sang Mimì in London and Berlin and Violetta (La traviata) at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. She also appeared in concerts and television broadcasts and gave song recitals at Bozar in Brussels and at La Grange au Lac.
Aida Garifullina won first prize in the 2013 Operalia Competition. Highlights of her career have included live broadcast performances at the 2018 World Cup and at the Concert de Paris on Bastille Day. In 2018/19 she made much-acclaimed debuts at the Berlin State Opera in Prokofiev’s Betrothal in a Monastery under Daniel Barenboim and as Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Metropolitan Opera, and appeared at the Salzburg Festival for the first time alongside Plácido Domingo in Les Pêcheurs de perles. She sang under the conductor Long Yu as part of Deutsche Grammophon’s 120th-anniversary celebrations in Shanghai and in the Forbidden City.
In 2017 she released her first solo album with Decca Records; the album was awarded an ECHO Klassik.
Alongside her opera engagements Aida Garifullina performed the role of the legendary opera singer Lily Pons in Stephen Frears’s feature film Florence Foster Jenkins, appearing alongside Meryl Streep.
Born and raised in Kazan, Aida Garifullina studied at the University of Music in Nuremberg and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. From 2013 to 2016 she was a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera.
Aida Garifullina has been awarded the title of ‘Honoured Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan’.
