Alex Rosen

The Californian bass Alex Rosen is equally in demand as an opera, concert and recital singer. His recent engagements have included Handel’s Semele with Opera Philadelphia, Haydn’s The Creation with the Orchestre national de Metz and Bach’s St John Passion with Les Arts Florissants and the Concertgebouw Orchestra under William Christie.

In recent seasons his appearances have included Caronte in a new production of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo at the Nederlandse Reisopera, and Seneca (L’incoronazione di Poppea) under Gary Thor Wedow at the Cincinatti Opera and under Kelly Kuo for Opera Columbus.

In the 2022/23 season he sang Lurcanio (Ariodante) on a tour with the ensemble il Pomo d’Oro and made his house debut at the Teatro Real in Madrid as Caronte. He also performed Seneca in the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence’s guest appearances in Versailles. In addition, he sang in Purcell’s The Fairy-Queen at the Drottningholm Palace Theatre and in a staged version of The Creation at Theater Basel. Future engagements will include concerts with Les Musiciens du Louvre and Les Arts Florissants.

Alex Rosen has a long-term working relationship with the pianist Michał Biel, with whom he won second prize in the International Competition of the Hugo Wolf Academy in 2018. As laureates of the Académie Orsay-Royaumont, they have given song recitals throughout Europe.
