Alina Ibragimova

Performing repertoire from the Baroque to the present day on both modern and period instruments, Alina Ibragimova is one of the most accomplished and intriguing violinists of her generation.

She has been a prominent presence at the BBC Proms since 2015, giving late-night recitals of the complete Bach solo partitas and sonatas and the world premiere of Rolf Wallin’s Violin Concerto with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Edward Gardner.

Recent concerts include Roslavets’s First Violin Concerto with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic and Osmo Vänskä at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Forthcoming projects include Schnittke’s Violin Concerto with the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin and Robin Ticciati, Brahms’s Violin Concerto with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Andrew Manze, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and Lionel Bringuier and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Robin Ticciati and Bartók’s Second Violin Concerto with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and Karina Canellakis, as well as an extensive solo Bach recital tour in Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

She enjoys a long-standing duo partnership with pianist Cédric Tiberghien and together they have given highly successful cycles of the Beethoven and Mozart violin sonatas at Wigmore Hall, as well as being in demand at many of the world’s other prestigious recital series. They have also recorded a broad range of repertoire for Hyperion. Her latest CD, attracting unanimous praise, features Shostakovich’s First and Second Violin Concertos, recorded with the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia and Vladimir Jurowski.

Born in Russia in 1985, Alina Ibragimova studied at the Moscow Gnessin School before moving to the UK in 1995 where she studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal College of Music. She was also a member of the Kronberg Academy Masters programme. Her teachers have included Natasha Boyarsky, Gordan Nikolitch and Christian Tetzlaff.

She has been the recipient of awards including the 2019 Royal Philharmonic Society Instrumentalist Award, the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award in 2008 and the Classical BRIT Young Performer of the Year Award in 2009. She was also a member of the BBC New Generation Artists scheme from 2005 to 2007. Alina Ibragimova was made an MBE in the 2016 New Year Honours List.

She plays an Anselmo Bellosio violin of c1775, which is kindly provided by Georg von Opel.
