Ana Maria Labin
Soprano

The soprano Ana Maria Labin was born in Romania and grew up in Switzerland. During her studies at the Zurich University of the Arts she won first prize at the Concours Ernst Haefliger and made her debut as Valencienne in Die lustige Witwe under Asher Fisch at La Scala, Milan.
She quickly established herself as a Mozart interpreter, singing roles including Aspasia (Mitridate, re di Ponto) at the Berlin State Opera under Marc Minkowski, Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at Glyndebourne, Arminda (La finta giardiniera) at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Donna Anna and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) in the Mozart-Da Ponte trilogy staged by Ivan Alexandre at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, in Drottningholm and in Versailles.
Highlights of the 2023/24 season include Ginevra in Handel’s Ariodante and Haydn’s The Seasons on tour with Les Arts Florissants under William Christie, Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso under Jean-Christophe Spinosi at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and Mozart’s Mass in C minor at the Salzburg Festival.
Also at home in Baroque repertory, Ana Maria Labin has sung Armida in Robert Carsen’s production of Rinaldo at Glyndebourne, Manto in Steffani’s Niobe under Thomas Hengelbrock at the Schwetzingen Festival, the title role of Handel’s Semele and Queen of Sheba (Solomon) at the Festival de Beaune, Agenore in Bononcini’s Astarto at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music and Handel’s Acis and Galatea with the English Chamber Orchestra.
As a concert soloist her performances include Haydn’s The Seasons with Adam Fischer and the Haydn Philharmonic in Eisenstadt, Il ritorno di Tobias at the Vienna Konzerthaus and The Creation in Innsbruck and Luxembourg. She has also toured with The English Concert under Harry Bicket and performed with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under Antonello Manacorda in the newly built opera house in Bahrain.
In 2011 she appeared in the renowned New Year’s Eve concert of the Staatskapelle Dresden under Christian Thielemann, a recording of which was released on CD and DVD by Deutsche Grammophon.
