Andriana Chuchman

The Canadian / Ukrainian soprano Andriana Chuchman has won much acclaim for her performances in a wide repertory, ranging from Handel and Mozart opera heroines to masterpieces of the 20th century and world premieres. In summer 2023 she makes her Salzburg Festival debut, along with her role debut as Alcina with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and sings in Mahler’s Fourth Symphony at the Bellingham Festival of Music. In March 2023 she appeared in a concert at the National Cathedral in Washington D. C. Future engagements include a return to the Dallas Opera and her role debut as Violetta in La traviata.

Andriana Chuchman recently made two important role debuts: as Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) at Opera Omaha and as Gilda (Rigoletto) at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and Opera San Antonio.

Her other recent operatic engagements have included Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Miranda in the operatic pasticcio The Enchanted Island, Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel) and Valencienne (Die lustige Witwe) at the Metropolitan Opera; Mary in Jake Heggie’s It’s A Wonderful Life at the San Francisco Opera; Eurydice in John Neumeier’s production of Orphée et Eurydice, Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Yum-Yum (The Mikado) and Valencienne at the Lyric Opera of Chicago; her house and role debut as Pat Nixon (Nixon in China) at the Houston Grand Opera; Micaëla in Peter Brook’s Bizet adaptation La Tragédie de Carmen at the San Diego Opera; Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi) at the Los Angeles Opera; Boonyi / India in the critically acclaimed world premiere of Jack Perla’s Shalimar the Clown at the Opera Theatre of St Louis; Gretel for Glyndebourne on Tour; Magnolia (Show Boat) and Marie (La Fille du régiment) at the Washington National Opera; Magnolia at the Dallas Opera, Kumudha in John Adams’s A Flowering Tree at Opera Omaha; Guenevere (Camelot) at the Glimmerglass Festival; Yum-Yum, Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) and a staged production of Orff’s Carmina Burana at the Michigan Opera Theater; Minka in Chabrier’s Le Roi malgré lui at the Bard Music Festival; the title role in the ballad opera Flora and Irma in Charpentier’s Louise at the Spoleto Festival USA; and Alinda in Cavalli’s Giasone and Dorinda in Handel’s Orlando at the Chicago Opera Theater.

Born in Winnipeg, Andriana Chuchman studied singing at the University of Manitoba. She is the recipient of the Opera Theatre of St Louis’s 2017 Mabel Dorn Reeder Award, and was a finalist and prizewinner at the 2009 Neue Stimmen Competition in Germany. In 2007 she received a Sullivan Foundation Encouragement Award.
