Anita Rachvelishvili

Georgian mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili made her international breakthrough in 2009 when she made her spectacular role debut as Carmen under Daniel Barenboim at La Scala, Milan. The production, which opened the new season, was broadcast worldwide. Since then she has sung this role at the Metropolitan Opera, the Paris Opéra, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Deutsche Oper and the State Opera in Berlin, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Dresden Semperoper, the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Arena di Verona as well as in Seattle, San Francisco, Toronto, Rome and Turin. An exclusive Sony Classical artist, she released her acclaimed debut album in 2018.
Engagements in 2018/19 included her return to the Met for Amneris (Aida), Dalila (Samson et Dalila) and the Princess of Bouillon (Adriana Lecouvreur) and to the Paris Opéra for Carmen. She also made her Monte Carlo debut as Dalila, gave a solo recital with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House under Antonio Pappano and toured Germany with Jonas Kaufmann.
Plans for 2019/20 include her role debut as Eboli (Don Carlo) in Paris and as Charlotte (Werther) in Athens. She will also make her Liceu debut as Carmen and return to Paris for Konchakovna (Prince Igor), to the Berlin State Opera for Carmen, to the Vienna State Opera for Dalila and Azucena (Il trovatore) and to the Dutch National Opera for Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana).
Other recent engagements include Azucena at the Met, the Paris Opéra, the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and Covent Garden, her first Santuzza in Rome, Amneris in Vienna, Turin, Paris, Milan, Rome, Oman, at the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, at the Chorégies d’Orange and the Arena di Verona, Dalila in Paris and at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Marfa (Khovanshchina) at the Dutch National Opera, Konchakovna at the Met, Dulcinée (Don Quichotte) in Cagliari and the Princess of Bouillon for her Carnegie Hall debut in 2011. She has also sung Isabella (L’italiana in Algeri) at La Scala, Gluck’s Orfeo at the Festival de Perelada and Lyubasha (The Tsar’s Bride) at the Berlin State Opera.
As a concert artist Anita Rachvelishvili has been acclaimed in Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra at Carnegie Hall and in Verdi’s Requiem both at La Scala and under Christian Thielemann at the 2015 Salzburg Easter Festival. She has additionally given recitals in Carnegie Hall, at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg and elsewhere.
