Arthur Klemt

Arthur Klemt was born in Klagenfurt in 1967. After several years in which he performed as a fire-eater, unicyclist, stilt-walker, tightrope walker and acrobat with the street theatre group Teatro Tascabile di Bergamo, among others, and played in Viennese basement theatres, he became a member of the ensemble at the Coburg State Theatre in 1992. He has performed at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Münchner Kammerspiele, Münchner Volkstheater, Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Theater der Jugend Wien, Stadttheater Bern, on tour – and began working for film and television.
At the Salzburg Festival, he appeared as Schuldknecht in Christian Stückl’s production of Jedermann in 2005 and 2006. In 2011, he became a member of the ensemble at the Residenztheater in Munich, and in 2019 he joined the ensemble of the Burgtheater in Vienna with Martin Kušej, with whom he had first worked in 1989. He has appeared in Faust, Don Karlos, Des Kaisers neue Kleider, Die Hermannsschlacht, Die Jagdgesellschaft and most recently in Herbert Fritsch’s Zentralfriedhof, Cornelia Funke’s Herr der Diebe (director: Rüdiger Pape) and Der nackte Wahnsinn (Noises Off) by Michael Frayn, directed by Martin Kušej. Arthur Klemt has also worked with directors such as Frank Castorf, András Dömötör, Anne Lenk, Lucia Bihler, Tina Lanik, Amélie Niermeyer, Robert Gerloff, Gísli Örn Garðarsson, Jürgen Kuttner, Tom Kühnel, Katrin Plötner, Reinhardt Friese, Alexander Kubelka, Josef E. Köpplinger, Patrick Schimanski, Bernhard Mikeska, Christina Rast, Nikolaus Habjan, Mirjam Loibl, Pippo Delbono, Katrine Wiedemann and Hannes Köpke, with the choreographer Saar Magal, with Gabriela Carrizo and her group Peeping Tom and with the performance group Showcase Beat Le Mot.
He has appeared in films including Die abhandene Welt by Margarethe von Trotta, The Diary of Anne Frank and Eine unerhörte Frau by Hans Steinbichler, as well as in numerous television films and series.
In the winter semester 2023/24, Arthur Klemt was also entrusted with a teaching assignment at the Max Reinhardt Seminar.
