Bo Skovhus

The Danish baritone Bo Skovhus studied at the conservatory in Aarhus, at the Royal Danish Opera Academy in Copenhagen and in New York. Career highlights have included the title role of Aribert Reimann’s Lear, Beckmesser (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) and Titus in the world premiere of Michael Jarrell’s Bérénice under Philippe Jordan at the Paris Opéra, Beckmesser for the Wagner Days Festival in Budapest and Mandryka (Arabella) at the Semperoper Dresden.

He has also sung the title role of Wozzeck at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Dr Schön (Lulu) at the Vienna State Opera, Šiškov in Janáček’s From the House of the Dead and the title role of Krenek’s Karl V at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Jean-Charles in Henze’s Das Floß der Medusa at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, Lear at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the title role of Eugene Onegin at the Hamburg State Opera.

Recent engagements have included Ryuji in Henze’s Das verratene Meer in Vienna, Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus) in Hamburg, Jaroslav Prus in Janáček’s The Makropulos Affair at the Berlin State Opera, Wozzeck in concert performances in Boston, at Carnegie Hall in New York and at the Verbier Festival, Werner Albrecht in Georg Friedrich Haas’s Bluthaus in Munich, Kovalyov (The Nose) in Dresden and Dr Schön at the Wiener Festwochen.

Alongside his appearances at leading international opera houses Bo Skovhus has a strong personal commitment to recital and concert singing.

In the 2023/24 season he has appeared as Faninal (Der Rosenkavalier) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, as Lear at the Teatro Real in Madrid, in a concert performance of The Makropulos Affair at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and in concerts in Singapore and Budapest.

Future engagements include I in Alfred Schnittke’s Life with an Idiot at the Zurich Opera House, Clov in György Kurtág’s Fin de partie at the Berlin State Opera, Dante in Pascal Dusapin’s Il viaggio, Dante at the Paris Opéra and Master Astaroth in the world premiere of Unsuk Chin’s Die dunkle Seite des Mondes at the Hamburg State Opera.

Bo Skovhus is an Austrian and Bavarian Kammersänger.
