Biography

Cappella Gabetta

Cappella Gabetta has enabled Sol Gabetta to make one of her musical dreams come true. She and her brother, the concertmaster Andrés Gabetta, and a hand-picked team of highly qualified musicians devise programmes of Baroque and early Classical repertoire, which they perform on original instruments, both in concert and in the studio.

The ensemble was established in December 2010 and has already appeared to great acclaim at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Salle Gaveau and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Musikhalle in Hamburg, the Theater an der Wien, the Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, the Tonhalle in Zurich and the Philharmonie in Berlin, as well as at illustrious festivals such as the Bremen Music Festival, the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival, the Lyon Baroque Music Festival and the Rheingau Music Festival.

Since 2011 Cappella Gabetta has made various award-winning recordings for Sony Music. The ensemble’s first disc featured cellist Sol Gabetta performing Italian Baroque repertoire, including several world premiere recordings, followed by a disc with mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux performing music by Handel and Hasse. Both CDs were named recording of the month in Gramophone and CD of the week on North German, Bavarian and Berlin radio.

Other recent discs include Dolce Duello, which was released on Decca in 2017, with Cecilia Bartoli and Sol Gabetta performing music by Gabrieli, Caldara and Porpora. Tango Seasons, with music by Vivaldi and Piazzolla, was released in April 2019 and features bandoneon player Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi and violinist Andrés Gabetta.

Cappella Gabetta has worked with an increasing number of distinguished instrumentalists and vocalists on joint concert and recording projects of Baroque and early Classical music, including soprano Nuria Rial, trumpet virtuoso Sergei Nakariakov, violinist Giuliano Carmignola, Baroque recorder player Maurice Steger and Baroque cellist Christophe Coin. Future plans include projects with mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli, soprano Pretty Yende, countertenor Franco Fagioli, mandolin player Avi Avital and trumpet player Gábor Boldoczki.
