Claire de Sévigné

Named one of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s top 30 Canadian classical musicians under 30, coloratura soprano Claire de Sévigné was recently nominated for a JUNO Award for her Naxos album of Vivaldi cantatas with Kevin Mallon and the Aradia Ensemble.

Her most recent successes include the Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte) at the Opera Theater of St Louis and Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Zurich Opera and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. During the forthcoming season, Claire de Sévigné appears as the High Priestess (Aida), Phani (Les Indes galantes), Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Clorinda (La Cenerentola) and the Angel (Saint-François d’Assise) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève as a member of their ensemble. She will also return to the Zurich Opera as the Fiakermilli (Arabella). In the 2020/21 season she will make her debut as Cunegonde (Candide), among other roles to be announced.

During the 2018/19 season Claire de Sévigné made her debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam as the Virgin in Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher. She also reprised the role of Blonde in Zurich and in Savonlinna and sang Handel’s Messiah with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

A semi-finalist in Plácido Domingo’s Operalia Competition in Guadalajara, she has been awarded prizes and grants from the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal Standard Life Competition, the Montréal International Competition, the Vancouver Opera Guild, the Christina and Louis Quilico Competition, the Marcello Giordani Foundation International Vocal Competition and the Annual Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio Competition.
