Biography

Donatella Di Cesare

Current as of July 2024

Donatella Di Cesare is professor of theoretical philosophy at the Sapienza University of Rome. Working at the intersection of hermeneutics, deconstruction and political theology, she has studied the construct of the Other from various perspectives, most notably in her recent book Resident Foreigners: A Philosophy of Migration (Polity Press, 2020). Her observations on visible and non-visible violence – from Auschwitz to contemporary forms of violent force – evolved into a critique of the nation-state, and in her book The Political Vocation of Philosophy (Polity Press, 2021) she called on philosophy to return to the global pólis. Other recent publications include Conspiracy and Power (Polity Press, 2023) and Torture (Polity Press, 2018), while her latest book Democracy and Anarchy is forthcoming in translation.
