Edgar Moreau

Edgar Moreau was born in Paris in 1994. He began playing the cello at the age of four and from 2008 to 2013 studied with Philippe Muller at the Paris Conservatoire. He currently studies with Frans Helmerson at the Kronberg Academy and has taken part in masterclasses with Gary Hoffman, Lynn Harrell and David Geringas.
He has been a prizewinner at numerous international competitions, including winning first prize at the 2014 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, second prize and the prize for the best performance of a commissioned work at the 2011 International Tchaikovsky Competition and most promising contestant at the 2009 Rostropovich Cello Competition in Paris.
Edgar Moreau made his orchestral debut at the age of 11 with the Teatro Regio Orchestra in Turin. He has also appeared with orchestras such as the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. More recent appearances include the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel, Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with Renaud Capuçon, Khatia Buniatishvili and the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the Accademia Nazionale de Santa Cecilia under Jakub Hrůša.
He is a committed chamber musician and has worked with the Talich, Pražák, Modigliani and Ébène Quartets, as well as with Renaud Capuçon, Nicholas Angelich, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger and Khatia Buniatishvili.
Edgar Moreau has appeared at various festivals including the Saint-Denis Festival, La Folle Journée in Nantes, the Verbier Festival, the Progetto Martha Argerich in Lugano, the Edinburgh International Festival and the Lucerne Festival, as well as at the Musikverein in Vienna and in Japan. He has also given recitals with pianist Pierre-Yves Hodique at the Mariinsky Theatre, the Philharmonie in Berlin, the Auditorium du Louvre in Paris and in Brussels, Antwerp and Ferrara.
He is an exclusive artist with Warner Classics and his first album Play was released in 2014. His latest recording features concertos by Offenbach and Gulda and was released in February 2019.
Edgar Moreau plays a David Tecchler cello from 1711.
