Biography

Erwin Falk

Erwin Falk was born in 1977 in Lower Austria, and studied percussion at the Vienna Conservatory with Roland Altmann. He continued his studies at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz with Leonhard Schmidinger and Bogdan Bacanu. From 2000 to 2007 he was principal timpanist with the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria. Since 2007 he has been principal timpanist with the Vienna Philharmonic.  

Highlights from his diverse orchestral activities include concerts with the Cleveland Orchestra, the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, the Symphony Orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. Erwin Falk is also active as a chamber musician, and performs regularly with groups including Ensemble Kontrapunkte and the Artis Quartet. His duo evenings with percussionist Martin Grubinger are an especially noteworthy part of his chamber activities. Erwin Falk is a lecturer of timpani at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.
