The Ukrainian baritone Iurii Samoilov appears regularly at leading international opera houses and concert halls, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Paris Opéra, the Teatro Real in Madrid, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Alte Oper Frankfurt. He has worked with conductors such as Antonio Pappano, Alain Altinoglu, Franz Welser-Möst, Riccardo Frizza, Tadaaki Otaka, Ivor Bolton and Pablo Heras-Casado.
In the 2023/24 season he has appeared in the title role of Eugene Onegin at the Grand Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki, as Marcello (La bohème) at the Irish National Opera and as Riccardo (I puritani) at the Olympia Music Theatre in Athens. He also sang in the Staatskapelle Dresden’s New Year’s Eve Concert.
Other recent engagements have included Schaunard (La bohème) at the Met, Eugene Onegin at the Norwegian Opera in Oslo and at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) at the Paris Opéra, Sonora (La fanciulla del West) with the Cleveland Orchestra, the title role of Don Giovanni and Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Semperoper Dresden, Count Almaviva at the National Theatre in Bucharest, the title role of Billy Budd at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, Prince Afron in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Golden Cockerel at the Teatro Real in Madrid and Belcore (L’elisir d’amore) at the Macerata Opera Festival. Concert engagements have taken him to the Philharmonie de Paris to perform with the Orchestre de Paris under Klaus Mäkelä and to the Brucknerhaus Linz for a recital. He most recently appeared at the Salzburg Festival in 2022 when he sang Marco (Gianni Schicchi) in a new production of Il trittico. In 2019 he made his debut at the BBC Proms singing Rachmaninoff’s The Bells at the Royal Albert Hall.
On 2017 Iurii Samoilov was a finalist in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.
