Biography

Jan Lisiecki

Pianist Jan Lisiecki’s interpretations and technique speak of a maturity beyond his age. At 25, the Canadian performs over a hundred concerts worldwide every year and has worked closely with conductors such as Antonio Pappano, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Daniel Harding and the late Claudio Abbado.

Following his recently acclaimed ‘Night Music’ recitals, the 2019/20 season saw Jan Lisiecki present both a new solo recital programme and a Beethoven Lieder programme with baritone Matthias Goerne. He returned to perform with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Filarmonica della Scala, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Camerata Salzburg and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, including performances at Carnegie Hall in New York and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. Jan Lisiecki has also appeared with the New York Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra.
Having signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon at the age of 15, Jan Lisiecki’s sixth album for the label features all five of the Beethoven piano concertos with him directing the Academy of St Martin in the Fields from the piano. The CD was recorded live at the Konzerthaus in Berlin and released in September 2019, marking the label’s first celebration of the Beethoven Year in 2020. Jan Lisiecki’s earlier recordings won the JUNO Award and the Echo Klassik.
At the age of 18, Jan Lisiecki became both the youngest ever recipient of the young artist award at the Gramophone Classical Music Awards and received the Leonard Bernstein Award. He was named UNICEF Ambassador to Canada in 2012.
