Jan Petryka

The tenor Jan Petryka grew up in a musical family in Warsaw and studied cello at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, before completing his singing studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Marjana Lipovšek.
His appearances on the opera stage have included Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) and Schreker’s Die Gezeichneten at the Opéra National de Lyon and Jaquino (Fidelio) at the Styriarte in Graz. He has also sung in Bertoni’s Orfeo ed Euridice at the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, in Schubert’s Lazarus at the Theater an der Wien, in Hiller’s Das Traumfresserchen at the Vienna State Opera, in Handel’s Ariodante for the Warsaw Chamber Opera and in Britten’s Billy Budd at the National Theatre in Prague.
Other highlights have included tours with Thomas Hengelbrock and the Balthasar Neumann Choir and Ensemble, Gottfried von Einem’s Der Prozess at the Vienna Konzerthaus and appearances at the Vienna Musikverein and the Berlin Philharmonie. He made his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2021 in Leonard Evers’s children’s opera Gold!
Recent engagements have included Martín y Soler’s L’arbore di Diana at the Vienna Kammeroper, Haydn’s Acide at the Eisenstadt Autumn Gold Festival and Mozart’s ‘Coronation’ Mass under Martin Haselböck in Lucerne and Vienna. He has appeared in Bach’s Magnificat with the Basel Chamber Orchestra under the direction of René Jacobs and in Bach’s St Matthew Passion with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra under Peter Dijkstra.
In 2024 Jan Petryka has sung the Evangelist in Bach’s St John Passion on a tour of Europe with the orchestra Le Concert des Nations and the vocal ensemble La Capella Reial de Catalunya under Jordi Savall, and performed the tenor solo in Mozart’s Mass in C minor with Les Musiciens du Prince — Monaco under Gianluca Capuano at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival.
In October 2024 he will sing in Haydn’s The Creation under Martin Haselböck at the Vienna Musikverein and in Bruckner’s Mass in F minor with the Zürcher Sing-Akademie at the Tonhalle in Zurich.
