Johannes Hiemetsberger

Johannes Hiemetsberger is the founder and artistic director of the Chorus sine nomine, as well as of the ensemble of vocal soloists Company of Music. With a wide repertoire that ranges from the music of today to the Renaissance, he appears regularly with both ensembles at the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Vienna Musikverein, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore, at the Jeunesse series, the Salzburg Festival, the Styriarte, the International Brucknerfest Linz, Wien Modern, Milano Musica and the Ravenna Festival.

As a conductor he works with orchestras such as the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Wiener Akademie, the ensemble ‘die reihe’, L’Orfeo Barockorchester, the ensembles Rota Fortunae Wien and Prisma Wien, the Camerata Salzburg, the NDR Vokalensemble in Hamburg, the Bavarian Radio Choir and the Sociedad Coral de Bilbao.

He received his training at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz, at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (music pedagogy, choral direction with Johannes Prinz and Herwig Reiter) and at the Vienna Conservatory (conducting with Georg Mark, early music).

Johannes Hiemetsberger is professor of conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, teaches at the Anton Bruckner Institute for Choral and Ensemble Conducting and Composition in Music Education, and is an internationally sought-after speaker at workshops and masterclasses. From 2008 to 2018 he was artistic director of the Stimmen.Festival.Freistadt.

Johannes Hiemetsberger is a prizewinner of the Erwin Ortner Fund, and won the Ferdinand Grossmann Prize.
