Johannes Nussbaum

Born in Vienna in 1995 and raised in Lower Austria, Johannes Nussbaum studied at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin from 2015 to 2018. During this time, he appeared on stage at the Deutsches Theater Berlin and made guest appearances under the direction of Ulrich Rasche at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden and the Salzburg Festival. In 2016, he received Austria’s most prestigious film and television award, the Romy, as „Best Young Actor“ for his role in the ORF series „Vorstadtweiber“. Johannes Nussbaum was also awarded the Alfred Kerr Actor Prize at the 2019 Berlin Theatertreffen and the Bayerischer Kusntförderpreis in 2023.

He has been a permanent ensemble member at the Residenztheater München since 2019/2020. Since then, he was named Young Actor of the Year by Theater Heute in 2020 for his portrayal of Kevin in „Die Verlorenen“ and received the Kurt-Meisel-Förderpreis, as well as the Bayerischen Kunstförderpreis in the category Performing Arts in 2023.

He can currently be seen in the Netflix series „The Empress “, which won the International Emmy Award for „Best Drama Series“.
