Konrad Hempel

Konrad Hempel, born in 1973, lives and works as a visual artist, composer and musician in Berlin. After studying history, musicology and philosophy, he studied visual communication at the Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee. He completed his masterclass with Prof Alexander Jordan. He has been active as a musician and composer since 1990. Among other things, he dedicates himself to silent film and film soundtracks, as well as experimental and underground music. He has given concerts with his bands Yellowback and ALP in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic and the USA. From 1998 to 2003, he was a founding member of the open Berlin stage “Abteilung Hören und Sehen”. He has worked with Sebastian Rudolph, Thomas Dannemann and Jo Parkes, among others, at the Schauspielhaus Hannover and the Residenztheater in Munich. In his artistic work, he has created various installations, sound spaces as well as video and painting works. He has exhibited at the “Akademie der Künste”, the “Haus der Kulturen der Welt” in Berlin and the Museo Monjo in Barcelona, among others. In 2014, he founded the “Institute for Experimental Affairs” together with Claudia Lehmann.
