Krassimira Stoyanova is one of the leading sopranos of our time, highly acclaimed by press and public alike. She was born in Bulgaria and studied singing and the violin at the Plovdiv Conservatory. She made her professional debut in 1995 at the Sofia National Opera, where she developed a significant repertoire. Her international debut followed at the Vienna State Opera, where she remains a regular guest and was named Kammersängerin in 2009. 

Krassimira Stoyanova appears at major opera houses worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera, New York, the Paris Opéra, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, La Scala, Milan, the Zurich Opera, the Semperoper Dresden and the Bavarian, Hamburg and Berlin State Operas. She has worked with renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Daniele Gatti, Bernard Haitink, Manfred Honeck, Mariss Jansons, Fabio Luisi, James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Georges Prêtre, Yuri Temirkanov, Christian Thielemann and Franz Welser-Möst.

Krassimira Stoyanova performs a wide variety of roles, ranging from bel canto and the great Verdi and Puccini heroines, as well as those in operas by Richard Strauss, to the Slavic repertoire. She is also dedicated to less well-known operas, including Verdi’s La battaglia di Legnano, Donizetti’s Maria di Rohan, Meyerbeer’s Les Huguenots and Dvo?ák’s Dimitrij.

In 2003 Krassimira Stoyanova made her much acclaimed debut at the Salzburg Festival as Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) and has returned, with equal success, as the Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier) and Danae (Die Liebe der Danae).

On the concert platform, she is one of today’s most popular singers, with highlights including Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at the Ravenna Festival under Riccardo Muti, with Colin Davis at St Paul’s Cathedral, with Mariss Jansons at the Vatican and with Christian Thielemann and the Munich Philharmonic. Her repertoire also includes the Verdi Requiem, Beethoven’s Missa solemnis, Strauss’s Four Last Songs and Dvo?ák’s Requiem and Stabat Mater.

Highlights of the 2017/18 season include recitals at the Bavarian and Vienna State Operas, Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Riccardo Muti and Aida and Amelia (Simon Boccanegra) at La Scala, Milan.

During the 2018/19 season she performs Verdi’s Requiem at the Konzerthaus in Berlin and at Covent Garden, as well as appearing in productions of Ariadne auf Naxos at the Semperoper Dresden under Christian Thielemann and at La Scala under Franz Welser-Möst. She also returns to the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome for the Vier letzte Lieder and to the Zurich Opera as the Marschallin. She will also give a recital and a concert of Strauss’s music at Musikverein in Vienna, in addition to concerts with the Vienna Philharmonic, concert performances of Aida with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Riccardo Muti and Leonora (Il trovatore) at the Bavarian State Opera.

Krassimira Stoyanova’s four solo CDs, I palpiti d’amor, Slavic Opera Arias, Verdi and Verismo for Orfeo, have been awarded numerous important prizes. Naxos released her latest CD, featuring songs by Puccini for soprano and piano.
