Léo Vermot-Desroches

The French tenor Léo Vermot-Desroches graduated from his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris with distinction. In 2024 he was nominated as a vocal discovery (Révélation artiste lyrique) at the Victoires de la Musique Classique. In 2023 he won second prize in the Voix Nouvelles competition at Paris’s Opéra Comique. In 2020 he won first prize in both the opera and song categories at the Marmande International Singing Competition. He is also a prize-winner of the competitions of Froville, Canari and Arles.

Following performances as First Jew (Salome) at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in 2022, he sang Truffaldino in Prokofiev’s L’Amour des trois oranges at the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy, Leopold in Benatzky’s Im weissen Rössl at the Opéra de Marseille, Des Grieux in an adaptation of Massenet’s Manon at the opera houses of Saint-Étienne, Vichy and Massy (with the Compagnie Op’là) and Pepe in Donizetti’s Rita ou Le Mari battu at the Opéra de Tours. He has also given several recitals, including at the Théâtre Impérial de Compiègne, and appeared as a soloist in works such as Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle at the Opéra de Bordeaux.

In the 2023/24 season Léo Vermot-Desroches sang the tenor solo in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Jaquino (Fidelio) at the Opéra de Dijon, Arbace (Idomeneo) at the Opéra national de Lorraine, Camille de Rosillon (Die lustige Witwe) at the Opéra de Marseille, Poisson (Adriana Lecouvreur) and Harry (La fanciulla del West) at the Opéra national de Lyon and Lychas, Phérès, Alecton and Apollon in Lully’s Alceste with Les Épopées at the Opéra Royal de Versailles, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Theater an der Wien and for a recording. He also enjoyed great successes as Manoël in Gounod’s Le Tribut de Zamora at the Opéra de Saint-Étienne, as Julien in an adaptation of Charpentier’s Louise under the title Au loin, ma ville at the Opéra Comique, and in concerts and recitals including in Limoges and Orange.

In the 2024/25 season Léo Vermot-Desroches sings Juliano in Auber’s Le Domino noir at the Opéra Comique, Nicias in Massenet’s Thaïs at the Opéra de Saint-Étienne, Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Alfredo (La traviata) at the Opéra de Tours and Lychas/Phérès (Alceste) in Kraków. His schedule also includes various recitals and concerts, including performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in Stuttgart and Munich.
