They had previously given the premiere of this work, written for them, at Munich’s Isarphilharmonie in January 2019. At the beginning of the 2022/23 season they undertook a European tour with the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Iván Fischer. They have also recently performed with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, the Houston Symphony, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the WDR Symphony Orchestra and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. They give recitals in cities including Berlin, London, Paris, Stockholm, Stuttgart, Essen and Dortmund.
Lucas and Arthur Jussen received their first piano lessons in their native Hilversum. In 2005 the brothers studied in Portugal and Brazil at the invitation of Maria João Pires. Lucas completed his studies with Menahem Pressler in the USA and with Dmitri Bashkirov in Madrid, while Arthur graduated from the Amsterdam Conservatory, having studied with Jan Wijn.
They have recorded exclusively with Deutsche Grammophon since 2010 and their debut CD of works by Beethoven was awarded the Edison Klassiek Audience Award. Other recordings include a disc of Schubert, the CD Jeux featuring French piano music, Mozart piano concertos with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and Neville Marriner and a highly acclaimed performance of the Poulenc Double Concerto with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Stéphane Denève. In 2019 they recorded a CD of concertos and chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach, in collaboration with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta. Their 2021 CD The Russian Album featured works for two pianos by Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky and Arensky. Their most recent recording, Dutch Masters (April 2022), with participation from the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under Karina Canellakis among others, is devoted to works by Dutch composers. The recording won an Edison Klassiek Award in the chamber music category and the Edison Klassiek Audience Award in September 2022.
