Manuel Günther

The tenor Manuel Günther began his artistic career as a member of the International Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera, and as an ensemble member of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. Prior to his performances as Basilio (Le nozze di Figaro) at this year’s Salzburg Festival, his 2023 appearances included Brighella (Ariadne auf Naxos) at the Semperoper Dresden, Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) at the Aalto-Musiktheater in Essen and Alfred in a new production of Die Fledermaus at the Salzburg Landestheater. In September 2023 he will make his debut at Theater Bonn as Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail).
In 2022 Manuel Günther made his debut at Theater Magdeburg as Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and appeared for the first time at the Bregenz Festival, in a production of Umberto Giordano’s Siberia. Before this, he appeared at the Berlin State Opera as the Dancing Master (Ariadne auf Naxos), a role that he had previously sung for the Stuttgart State Opera in 2021.
Guest engagements have taken him to other renowned opera houses, among them the Komische Oper Berlin, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Theater an der Wien, the Polish National Opera in Warsaw and the Opera Vlaanderen in Antwerp and Ghent. He has also appeared at the Glyndebourne Festival and the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music. He made his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2012 as a member of the Young Singers Project.
In addition to roles already mentioned, Manuel Günther’s wide-ranging repertory also includes Count Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Pedrillo (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Osman in Handel’s Almira, Baron Kronthal in Lortzing’s Der Wildschütz and the Steersman (Der fliegende Holländer).
