Mariana Fracasso

Mariana Fracasso was born in Turin, where she studied languages and literature before switching to fashion design. She worked at Mediterranea, a biennale for young artists, and for the fashion event ‘Pitti Trend’ in Florence, which launched her collaboration with leading fashion houses. She designed clothing, shoes and fashion items for brands such as Coccapani, Piacenza Cashmere, Max Mara, Casadei, Lancetti, Roccobarocco and Ferrari. After working for several years at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) she designed car interiors for manufacturers including Bertone, Fiat and Alfa Romeo. In 2000 she worked on the model of a new popemobile for Pope John Paul II.

Since 2021 Mariana Fracasso has worked as a costume designer for music theatre productions. She has worked at leading opera houses, including La Scala, Milan, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Sydney Opera House, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, the Royal Opera House in Muscat, the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, the ABAO Bilbao Ópera and the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music.

In the 2023/24 season she has worked at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing on their new production of Lakmé (a co-production with the Royal Opera House in Muscat, the Fondazione Arena di Verona and the Los Angeles Opera), and designed costumes for Giulio Cesare at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and for the double bill La lupa / Il berretto a sonagli by Marco Tutino at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania. In June 2024 she will work on Turandot at La Scala, Milan.

Other recent productions include La traviata and Busoni’s Doktor Faust in Florence, Tosca and Norma in Catania, La Gioconda at La Scala and Federico Moreno Torroba’s zarzuela Luisa Fernanda in Madrid.
