Nadezhda Pavlova

The lyric soprano Nadezhda Pavlova is one of the most exciting singers of her generation. In 2017 she received the Golden Mask, Russia’s most important theatre award, for her portrayal of Violetta in Robert Wilson’s production of La traviata under the musical direction of Teodor Currentzis at the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre, where she has been a member of the ensemble since the 2012/13 season.

Alongside Violetta, her repertory includes the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor, Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Marfa (The Tsar’s Bride), Micaëla (Carmen), Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos), Musetta (La bohème), Volkhova (Sadko), Gilda (Rigoletto), Olympia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Luisa  (Betrothal in a Monastery), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Sœur Constance (Dialogues des Carmélites), Cunegonde (Candide) and Marta in Weinberg’s The Passenger.

Nadezhda Pavlova is also active as a concert singer and has a wide-ranging song repertory. Her engagements have taken her to major European opera houses and concert halls and to renowned festivals. In 2021 she made her Salzburg Festival debut as Donna Anna in Romeo Castellucci’s production of Don Giovanni. In 2022 she had major triumphs with her first performances at the Hamburg State Opera as Gilda and Donna Anna, and with her debuts at the Bavarian State Opera as Konstanze and at the Zurich Opera as Violetta. She also sang the latter role in 2023 in her acclaimed debut at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under Zubin Mehta and in June 2024 at the Bavarian State Opera.

Nadezhda Pavlova has also appeared at festivals and venues including the Lucerne Festival, the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Cologne Philharmonie and the Konzerthaus Dortmund. Since the 2018/19 season she has been a guest soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

Alongside the Golden Mask, Nadezhda Pavlova has received the Moscow Music Critics’ Association Prize (2016) and the Russian Casta Diva Award (2020).
