Neue Vocalsolisten

The seven singers of the Neue Vocalsolisten see themselves as researchers and explorers who are constantly seeking new forms of vocal expression in exchange with composers. One of their focuses is collaboration with artists who virtuosically exploit the possibilities of digital media. The ensemble’s work is characterized by idiosyncratic interdisciplinary formats between music theatre, performance, installation and concert staging. The Neue Vocalsolisten have come to shape the genre of vocal chamber music theatre, with works by Georges Aperghis, Carola Bauckholt, Luciano Berio, Francesco Filidei, Luca Francesconi, Gordon Kampe, Mischa Käser, Sarah Nemtsov, Sergei Nevsky, Lucia Ronchetti, Katharina Rosenberger, Oscar Strasnoy and Claude Vivier. The ensemble’s partners include leading specialist ensembles and orchestras, international opera houses, the independent theatre scene, studios for electronic music and organizers of festivals and concerts of new music around the world.

In 2021 the Neue Vocalsolisten have initiated artistic border crossings in VOICE AFFAIRS. It connects the singers with eight artists from Lebanon, Egypt, Palestine and Israel who tell of the diversity, contradictions and poetry of this cultural space using contemporary composition, electronic music, sound art, improvisation and avant-pop.

The Neue Vocalsolisten continue their Magische Räume series at their venue in Stuttgart. Since last year, the ensemble and three young web designers have researched new Corona-compliant performance formats that exploit the possibilities of digital media. During the first half of 2021, the Neue Vocalsolisten gave the premiere of Echokammern by Raed Yassin and modular perspectives by Juliana Hodkinson. The world premiere of Sergei Nevsky’s music theatre piece Die Einfachen is scheduled for this summer in Stuttgart.

Despite current restrictions, the Neue Vocalsolisten are also performing at renowned festivals in Stuttgart, Berlin, Marseille, Lisbon, Darmstadt, Salzburg, Beirut and Venice.
