Nick Pritchard

 The British tenor Nick Pritchard has quickly gained recognition for his performances of music by Johann Sebastian Bach, above all for his interpretations of the Evangelist in the St John Passion and the St Matthew Passion, which he has performed worldwide. Recently he appeared in this role with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra under Jonathan Cohen at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, with Polyphony and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.

Highlights of the 2023/24 season include performances as the Evangelist (St John Passion) with the Irish Baroque Orchestra and Chorus under Peter Whelan, the Residentie Orkest under Richard Egarr and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra under Masato Suzuki, Messiah with the Academy of Ancient Music, George Benjamin’s Written on Skin with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the composer, Purcell’s King Arthur with the Early Opera Company, Morpheus in Lully’s Atys with Les Talens Lyriques under Christophe Rousset at the Opéra Royal de Versailles and at the Vienna Konzerthaus, and a North American tour with the Monteverdi Choir performing Handel’s L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato and Bach’s Mass in B minor. In June he appears at the Aldeburgh Festival in Britten’s Saint Nicolas.

On the concert platform Nick Pritchard has appeared with ensembles such as Pygmalion, Concerto Köln, Les Talens Lyriques, Les Violons du Roy, The English Concert, the Gabrieli Consort, the Monteverdi Choir & Orchestras, the Orchestre de chambre de Paris, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Early Opera Company.

The recording of Bach’s St John Passion for Deutsche Grammophon with the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists under John Eliot Gardiner, in which he performed the Evangelist, was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2023.

Nick Pritchard is a founding member of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment’s programme ‘Rising Stars’ and an artist of the Samling Artist Programme.
