Orchestre des Champs-Élysées

The Orchestre des Champs-Élysées is devoted to performing music from the mid-18th century to the early 20th century, from Haydn to Mahler, playing on the instruments that existed during the composers’ lifetimes.

For several years, the Orchestra has been resident at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, as well as performing in almost all major concert halls, including the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Barbican in London, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, the Philharmonie in Berlin and Munich, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Lincoln Center in New York and the Parco della Musica in Rome, as well as in Dijon and Lucerne. The Orchestra has also toured to Japan, Korea, China and Australia.

Philippe Herreweghe is both the Orchestra’s artistic director and its principal conductor, though it also performs with several guest conductors, including Daniel Harding, Christian Zacharias, Louis Langrée, Heinz Holliger, Christophe Coin and René Jacobs.

The Orchestre des Champs-Élysées feels passionately about offering an innovative approach to music and offers public rehearsals, conferences, meetings and workshops with school children at each of its concerts.
The Orchestre des Champs-Élysées is a partner of the Théâtre Auditorium de Poitiers, funded by the French Ministry of Culture, the government of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region and the City of Poitiers.

Due to the pandemic, the ensemble has recently developed projects in new formats, including streamed concerts of Beethoven’s symphonies and Ravel’s concertos in partnership with French TV. In July 2021, the Orchestre is mounting a new festival in Poitiers dedicated to the music of Mozart, before appearing in Saintes and Salzburg to mark its 30th anniversary.
The Orchestra’s extensive discography includes Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C minor, Beethoven’s Missa solemnis, Ninth Symphony and complete works for violin and orchestra, Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Paul and Ein Sommernachtstraum, Schumann’s symphonies, Cello Concerto and Szenen aus Goethes Faust, Berlioz’s L’Enfance du Christ and Les Nuits d’été, the Fauré Requiem, Bruckner’s Fourth, Fifth and Seventh Symphonies and Mass No. 3 in F minor as well as Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn songs and Fourth Symphony.
