Pablo Heras-Casado

Pablo Heras-Casado enjoys an unusually varied career, encompassing the great symphonic and operatic repertoire, historically informed performance and contemporary music.

He appears regularly in Europe with the Philharmonia and London Symphony Orchestras, the Orchestre de Paris, the Munich Philharmonic and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra. Performances elsewhere include the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the San Francisco, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Minnesota and Philadelphia Symphony Orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, as well as the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Japan.

He is currently conducting Wagner’s Ring at the Teatro Real in Madrid, where he is principal guest conductor until 2022. During the 2020/21 season he made his debut at the Vienna State Opera with Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, with a revival and further productions planned over the next two seasons.

Pablo Heras-Casado’s recent discography on harmonia mundi includes Beethoven’s symphonies and concertos and the Neue Romantik series, with works by Mendelssohn, Schumann and Schubert. Other discs include music by Manuel de Falla, Debussy, Bartók, Monteverdi and Wagner. As a recipient of numerous awards, including the German Record Critics’ Prizes and the Diapason d’Or on two occasions, as well as a Latin Grammy, he also recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Decca Records and Sony Classical.

Pablo Heras-Casado is a committed teacher, working with young musicians all over the world, including projects with the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Juilliard Orchestra and the Juilliard415 Ensemble, RCO Young, the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, the Barenboim-Said Foundation, the Orquesta Joven de Andalucía, the Pan-Caucasian Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Academy.

In 2018 he was named Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and in 2021 was awarded artist of the year at the International Classical Music Awards. Highly committed to the Spanish charity Ayuda en Acción as a global ambassador, he supports and promotes the charity’s work internationally and conducts its annual concert at the Teatro Real in Madrid.
