The Slovakian tenor Pavol Breslik regularly appears at the world’s leading opera houses. From 2003 to 2006 he was a member of the ensemble of the Berlin State Opera and in 2006 he was awarded the title of ‘Young Singer of the Year’ by the magazine Opernwelt.
Highlights of his career have included Lensky (Eugene Onegin), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore) and Alfredo (La traviata) at the Vienna State Opera, Gennaro (Lucrezia Borgia) alongside Edita Gruberova and Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) alongside Diana Damrau at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where he has also appeared as Alfredo, Nemorino, Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Lensky, Idamante (Idomeneo), Narraboth (Salome), Cassio (Otello), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi) and Henry Morosus (Die schweigsame Frau), and Lensky, Ferrando, Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and Tamino at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
From 2012 to 2018 he was a member of the Zurich Opera House, where he appeared in roles including Števa (Jenůfa), Don Ottavio, Nadir (Les Pêcheurs de perles), Peter Quint (The Turn of the Screw), Alfredo, Macduff (Macbeth), Belmonte, Nemorino, Lensky and the title roles of Roberto Devereux und Gounod’s Faust.
Other engagements have taken him to the Paris Opéra, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Grand Théâtre de Genève and the Salzburg Festival. He made his debut at the Sydney Opera as Nadir and sang Roméo (Roméo et Juliette) with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
On the concert platform Pavol Breslik has performed at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg under Thomas Hengelbrock, at the Vienna Opera Ball and at the New Year’s Concert at the Semperoper Dresden under Christian Thielemann. He has given song recitals at the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg and at London’s Wigmore Hall.
Recent role debuts have included Janek (The Bartered Bride) in Munich, Edwin (Die Csárdásfürstin) in Zurich and Prince (Rusalka) at the National Theatre in Prague.
In the 2023/24 season he has performed the title role of Idomeneo in Munich, Narraboth (Salome) in Paris and Števa in Berlin.
In 2021 Pavol Breslik was appointed a Bavarian Kammersänger.
