Raphael Sigling

The bass Raphael Sigling began his musical training in the Regensburger Domspatzen choir, and studied singing at the University of Music and Theatre Munich. During his studies he sang Bottom in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Wuppertal and Gelsenkirchen.
As a member of the ensemble of the Bavarian State Opera he appeared in Le nozze di Figaro, Idomeneo, Madama Butterfly, La traviata, Simon Boccanegra, The Love for Three Oranges, Reimann’s Das Schloss and Henze’s Venus und Adonis. He also sang in Johann Joseph Fux’s oratorio Il trionfo della fede with the Orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera, appeared in Venus und Adonis with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and performed at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt.
He has performed in numerous opera and operetta concerts with the Munich Symphony Orchestra at the Herkulessaal and appeared as a soloist in concerts at venues such as the Gasteig in Munich, the Dresden Kreuzkirche, and the cathedrals of Reims, Rennes, Paris, Florence, Rome, Siena, Assisi and Perugia, and of Nuremberg, Munich, Regensburg and Würzburg.
He has worked with renowned orchestras such as the Munich Bach Soloists, the Munich Symphony Orchestra and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, and with Baroque ensembles including the L’Orfeo Barockorchester, the Munich Hofkapelle and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. He has toured China with the Europa Philharmonie.
For many years he has been associated with the Tyrolean Festspiele Erl, where he has appeared in productions including Die Fledermaus and Der Ring des Nibelungen. He has sung in Offenbach’s La Vie parisienne and Mesdames de la Halle in Montpellier, and appeared in Naples in Strauss’s Capriccio and in Catania in his Guntram. His recent opera engagements have included Rocco in Fidelio at the Landestheater Vorarlberg, Zdravko in Georg Friedrich Haas’s Koma at the Klagenfurt Stadttheater and the Opéra de Dijon, and his debut at Theater Basel in Marius Felix Lange’s family opera Schellen-Ursli.
Raphael Sigling has received scholarships from the Richard Wagner Society in Bayreuth and from the Accademia Chigiana di Sienna.
