Robert Bauerstatter

Viola

Robert Bauerstatter was born in Linz in 1971. He studied viola with Siegfried Führlinger and Hans Peter Ochsenhofer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, graduating with distinction in 2000.

From 1998 to 2001 he was a member of the Tonkunstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, switching in 2001 to the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera. In 2004 he became a member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and was promoted to the position of section leader.

As a soloist he has appeared in concert with various international orchestras, including the Philharmonic Orchestras of Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna, and the Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM in Mexico City, performing works by Carl Stamitz, Franz Anton Hoffmeister, Paul Hindemith, Bohuslav Martinů, Max Bruch, Hector Berlioz and Ignaz Pleyel.

Alongside his orchestral activity Robert Bauerstatter is a passionate chamber musician. As a guest artist he works with ensembles such as the Küchl Quartet, the Wiener Kammerensemble and Ensemble Wien. He has also performed with his own ensembles such as the Lissy Quartet, the Vienna Piano Quartet, the Ignaz Pleyel Quartet and the Theophil Ensemble Wien both in concerts and in radio and television broadcasts.

His discography comprises 15 recordings with a variety of ensembles. In 2015 his recording of Ignaz Pleyel’s Viola Concerto in D major was released.
