Santiago Sanchez

The tenor Santiago Sánchez was born in Montevideo. Since the 2020/21 season he has been an ensemble member of Theater Bonn, where he most recently appeared as Lensky (Eugene Onegin), Camille de Rosillon (Die lustige Witwe), Kao-Li-Tse in Clemens von Franckenstein’s Li-Tai-Pe, Albert in Rolf Liebermann’s Leonore 40/45 and Taseh in Avner Dorman’s Die Kinder des Sultans.

Other engagements have included Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) at the Teatro Verdi in Sassari, Taseh in Dortmund, Elemer (Arabella) at the Aalto-Musiktheater in Essen, Mozart’s Requiem at the Teatro Ristori in Verona with the Italian Philharmonic Orchestra, Soliman (Zaide) and Don Asdrubale (Lo sposo deluso) at the Tyrol Festival in Erl, Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) on a tour of Spain, Alfredo (La traviata) at the Teatro Municipale in Piacenza, Lamplighter (Manon Lescaut) at the Frankfurt Opera, Passionate Gambler (The Gambler) at the Vienna State Opera, an Apprentice (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) at La Scala, Milan, and Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore) at the Opernbühne Maxlrain.

In the 2024/25 season he will appear in his home theatre in Bonn in roles including Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Augustin Moser (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) and Nemorino.

In 2023 Santiago Sánchez won the first prize at the International Mozart Competition of the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. He studied singing at the conservatory in Valencia and at the Mozarteum. In student productions he sang roles such as Don Anchise (La finta giardiniera), Don Polidoro (La finta semplice), Lensky and Oronte (Alcina).
