Solmaz Khorsand

Solmaz Khorsand is a journalist, author and podcaster. She completed her master’s degree in international relations and economics at John Hopkins University and has worked as an editor for the Wiener Zeitung, Die Zeit, derStandard.at, the monthly magazine Datum, and the Swiss magazine Republik. Khorsand’s work ranges from essays on Austrian domestic politics to reporting from Belarus and election coverage from Iran. Her feature ‘The Iranian Revolution’ was named one of the best essays of 2017, and she has received several awards for her work, including the Vienna Women’s Journalist Prize in 2018. Her book Pathos (Kremayr & Scheriau) was published in 2021, and untertan – Von braven und rebellischen Lemmingen (Docile – Obedient Versus Rebellious Lemmings; Leykam) in 2024. In 2021 she delivered the inaugural address at the Festival der Regionen (Festival of Regions), and in 2024 she gave the keynote speech at the Franz Grabner Prize.
