Tilman Lichdi

The tenor Tilman Lichdi has established himself as a leading concert singer and recitalist. He is especially well known for his performances as the Evangelist in Bach’s oratorios and passions. His intensive concert activity has taken him to important venues in Europe, the USA, South America, Asia and Australia. He works regularly with Ton Koopman and Herbert Blomstedt and with other well-known conductors such as Marcus Bosch, Frieder Bernius, Michel Corboz, Teodor Currentzis, Peter Dijkstra, Claus Peter Flor, Hartmut Haenchen, Martin Haselböck, Thomas Hengelbrock, Bernard Labadie, Kent Nagano, Hervé Niquet, Christoph Perick, Mikhail Pletnev, Christoph Poppen and Hans-Christoph Rademann.

His recent performances in the 2023/24 season have included Haydn’s The Seasons on a tour with Jordi Savall and Bach cantatas with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir under Ton Koopman in Prague and at the Bachfest in Leipzig.

From 2005 to 2013 Tilman Lichdi was a permanent ensemble member of the Nuremberg State Theatre. His opera repertory includes roles such as David in Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Steersman in Der fliegende Holländer, numerous Mozart roles such as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni and Belfiore in La finta giardiniera, and Count Almaviva in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia.

Particularly noteworthy among his numerous CD recordings are two recordings of the Schubert song cycles Die schöne Müllerin and Winterreise in a special arrangement with guitar.

Tilman Lichdi grew up in Heilbronn and studied trumpet at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim with Günther Beetz, before switching to singing studies at the University of Music in Würzburg with Charlotte Lehmann. He is the recipient of the Richard Strauss Plaque and in 2012 he received the Bavarian Art Promotion Award in the performing arts category.
