Tristan Hambleton

The bass-baritone Tristan Hambleton was born in London, and studied History of Art at St John’s College, University of Cambridge, and at Heidelberg University, and singing at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In the 2023/24 season he is a member of the programme Equilibrium Young Artists.

His various operatic roles include Envy and High Priest in Purcell’s The Indian Queen with Le Concert d’Astrée under Emmanuelle Haïm at the Opéra de Lille, the Théâtre de Caen, the Vlaamse Opera and the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg, Priam in Les Troyens with the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique at the BBC Proms, Marchese d’Obigny in La traviata at the Opéra National de Bordeaux, Witness 3 / Madman in George Benjamin’s Lessons in Love and Violence with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under the direction of the composer and Father Trulove in The Rake’s Progress with Barbara Hannigan and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra.

In May 2024 he makes his debut at the Salzburg Landestheater as Captain Ross in Stuart MacRae’s Anthropocene, in June he appears in Edwin Baudo’s work for young people La Victoire de Karima at the Philharmonie de Paris and in July he performs in Israel in Egypt at the Salzburg Festival.

On the concert platform Tristan Hambleton has appeared with ensembles including the Hallé Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Collegium Musicum in Bergen, Le Banquet Céleste, The Hanover Band and the Ensemble Correspondances, and worked with conductors such as Mark Elder, Nicholas Kraemer, Marc Minkowski, Dinis Sousa, Damien Guillon and Sébastien Daucé. He has also appeared with Welsh National Opera and Nevill Holt Opera, and at the Glyndebourne and Aix-en-Provence Festivals.
